
Institute Mission and History
The U.S.-Japan Institute is the
outgrowth of the U.S. Japan Management Studies Center, which was founded in 1982
as part of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The Institute
became an independent organization in January 1990. The U.S.-Japan Institute is
a non-profit, tax-exempt research and educational organization dedicated to the
promotion of positive U.S. Japan relations by furthering mutual understanding.
